He crossed the river by night in a storm, upstream of the Indian camp, and won one of the hardest-fought battles of his life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong style=\"color:#BE9B53;letter-spacing:0.08em;\"\u003eThe scene\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePorus fought on until he was wounded and taken. Asked how he wished to be treated, he answered, “Like a king.” Alexander gave him back his kingdom and added more land to it. Between 1665 and 1673 he painted four immense canvases on the life of Alexander: the Granicus, Arbela, the Entry into Babylon and Alexander and Porus. At court they were read as allusions to the young king’s own victories.
